Desorption of coal samples (cores) and shale is the basic empirical method used to determine the amount and composition of gas in coal (coal bed methane) and in shale (shale gas).
GEOKRAK started offering desorption services in the 1990s. We analyzed gas content in coal for AMOCO and TEXACO companies who were exploring coal bed methane in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. When TEXACO discontinued the project, GEOKRAK purchased their coal desorption equipment which was subsequently improved and adjusted to be used for shale gas projects. The new schemes, e.g. the design of desorption canisters and support equipment (heaters, device for sample collection) has allowed GEOKRAK to reach the top standards in gas content analysis in coal and shale, which conform to USBM norms.
High quality of desorption analyses provided by GEOKRAK has enabled it to carry out projects for renowned clients worldwide, in Europe, Africa, Gulf States and South America.
