Coal and shale desorption

Desorption of coal samples (cores) and shale is the basic empirical method used to determine the amount and composition of gas in coal (coal bed methane) and in shale (shale gas).

Field Laboratory

The scope of the field laboratory services includes:

  • collection of core samples for desorption tests

    • conventional cores

    • cores from core barrels

    • sidecores

  • analysis of desorbed gas content in cores maintained in reservoir temperature

  • collection of desorbed gas samples for laboratory analyses

  • measurement of core sample mass and density

  • gamma logging

  • volumetric collection of gas from a  PCS (Presure Core System) tester
